Oh, this has to be written.
Last evening I went to Khan Market- the old bastion of book shops and cafe’s in New Delhi, looking for a copy of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.
INT- RESPECTABLE BOOKSHOP - EVENINGDon’t Panic, Dev. All will be ok.Me: Do you have the book, Of Mice and Men?
(hesitant pause)
By John Steinbeck? The bookshop owner looks me up and down, curls his lip and replies in disgust.

Hi Mr. Benegal
This isn’t really a reply to this blog, really. I was looking around on the Net for you ‘cause I wanted to write to you. If you’d please sent me an email I’d write back.
Regards.
Aparna.
Hi Dev
You haven’t been blogging recently! and please respond to my last post…
Satyajit: Mammaries is biting and nothing short of extremely funny. YES, Upamanyu and I are planning a movie. We began talking about it several years ago but have not progressed much further. I’m hoping to pick it up after some of my other movies which I am working on now.
The screenplay of Ravan & Eddie won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival’s Creator’s Forum and was an official selection at the eQuinoxe Screenwriters Workshops. I’m hoping the movie will see the light of day sometime soon.
Aparna: Why do I sound like a geek? Stanley Kubrick once said if a few directors get together all they talk about is technology. You should read my tribute to Subrata Mitra and perhaps that might give you an insight.
In any case I prefer to let my movies speak and not come across as some painful, pompous intellectual.
If you are looking for insights into filmmaking they are scattered all over this blog. Like clues one has to discover in life. But if you’d prefer some “gyaan” then there are several websites where directors and filmmakers wax eloquent.
Kuntal: Yes, you are persistent.
And boy, has Prasad Lab screwed up the negative of English, August. The DVD will take A LOT OF TIME. But it will be there. I assure you!!
And yes, read ALL of Murakami. I am a total fan of his.
And Mice and Men. It’s a perfect book to read especially if one wants to know how to write a good screenplay.
Some good thoughts here, but I’m not sure if a lot of people will agree with you on this
