Your post triggered me to reflect a similar incident which I found really funny and unforgettable.
After my senior told me to watch Guru Dutt to understand my inclination towards painful poetry, I combed all the big movie stores in Kathmandu (and all the torrent search engines), but couldn’t find Guru Dutt's Pyasa and Kagaz Ke Phool there. That was two years ago. When I was in Benaras last year on a visit, I found the two movies at a Moser bear store.
An old man on the counter asked me whether they were for my father. We both laughed. Well, I was a twenty-year-kid then. I told him Dutt was for me. He smiled and asked what I did.
'I write.'
‘Then, you’re a writer?' he further inquired with a warm smile.
'Trying to be..'

Satyajit: Mammaries is biting and nothing short of extremely funny. YES, Upamanyu and I are planning a movie. We began talking about it several years ago but have not progressed much further. I'm hoping to pick it up after some of my other movies which I am working on now.
The screenplay of Ravan & Eddie won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival's Creator's Forum and was an official selection at the eQuinoxe Screenwriters Workshops. I'm hoping the movie will see the light of day sometime soon.

Aparna: Why do I sound like a geek? Stanley Kubrick once said if a few directors get together all they talk about is technology. You should read my tribute to Subrata Mitra and perhaps that might give you an insight.
In any case I prefer to let my movies speak and not come across as some painful, pompous intellectual.

If you are looking for insights into filmmaking they are scattered all over this blog. Like clues one has to discover in life. But if you'd prefer some "gyaan" then there are several websites where directors and filmmakers wax eloquent.

Kuntal: Yes, you are persistent. :-) And boy, has Prasad Lab screwed up the negative of English, August. The DVD will take A LOT OF TIME. But it will be there. I assure you!!

And yes, read ALL of Murakami. I am a total fan of his.

And Mice and Men. It's a perfect book to read especially if one wants to know how to write a good screenplay.

Just finished Mammaries of the Welfare State.
Any plans of converting it for the big screen ?
Would be interesting to see the portrayal..

Also, thanks for introducing me to Haruki Murakami...
Read A wild sheep chase and loved it ....

A few days back happened to read about Kiran Nagarkar.
Any progress on 'Ravan and Eddie' ?
