    Hello Sir,
Is it possible for me to get hold of a copy of English-August.
There were talks a couple of years that the movie would be released on a DVD but alas that never happened.
I closely followed Rahul’s blog to see if there are any updates on this front but now it seems that watching the movie will remain an unfulfilled dream.
    Kindly assist.
This may seem like one of the many requests that you get often; This was pretty much my last option :) I just have to get my hands on a copy of English August.
    Thanks n regards,
    Sanjay K Hari.

    Hey Dev,

Read this on NY Times this morning…

    >>>Five of the new venture’s first releases, Ms. Rosenthal said, are to be distributed simultaneously with their showings at the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from April 21 to May 2. Those include “Climate of Change,” a documentary about environmental activism narrated by Tilda Swinton, and “Road, Movie,” a film by the director Dev Benegal that tells the story of a road trip in India.<<<

Sounds like there would be a pay-per-view showing of "Road, Movie" online, to coincide with it's Tribeca screening. That's awesome news for folks like us in the US who seldom get to see such releases!!

    Good luck at Tribeca!
(and still waiting in anticipation for the "English, August" DVD restoration :D )

    Dev,

After searching desperately online for your movie English, August, I found your blog. I went through the entries here, but they are all around 4 years old. In 2006, you spoke at length about the potential release of English August on a DVD. However, there seems to be no update after that. Is the movie out on a DVD? In other words, is there any way I can watch it? DVD, online, any which way?

    Many thanks,
    Saagar

    Dev,

I saw Road, Movie last evening. I can only guess why you decided to make this film — because of the tremendous opportunity to narrate the story; for the story is only in the telling. And you told it so well.

We were in a theatre full of weekend viewers who had no idea what to expect from the movie and who kept hooting and screaming, often asking “Where’s the road?!”. When Tannishtha sang, the entire theatre was laughing and jeering. But frankly, they added to the narrative. Right there. Right from their seats. You could sense and feel the India Road, Movie was about. None of the viewers left the theater. Everyone wanted to know where this tale would go. I don’t think anyone wanted to wake up from the mela scene or get out of the water when Deol grandly dived into it. I think everyone saw themselves in the scenes where Deol did not want to share the water, as people who had once hoped that hair oil would magically fix their personality, as people who want to get away from reality by going on a journey of adventure that could not be guessed upon for its end. Nice. I had a good time. I may even go back to watch the stunning Tannishtha under the pretext of listening to her song!
